10 new year's resolution ideas for 2025

Updated On 9th March, 2024

Are you looking for some New Year’s resolution ideas for 2025? I’ve got you!

New Year is the perfect time to look forward and to think about how you’d like to shape the year that lies ahead of you.

There is so much power in manifesting and I think it’s really important to set goals in the new year so that you have some sort of direction for your year ahead.

They don’t have to be rigid or filled with ridiculous expectations but they should inspire you and encourage you to step into more of yourself and the dreams that you have.

It’s in these moments that we choose to invest in our personal goals that we get the chance to develop tools that become the most valuable assets in our lives.

In my 10 New Year’s resolution ideas for 2025, I have shared some of the most important areas I think we should all focus our energy on in the year ahead.

I’ll leave the New Year’s resolution ideas to do the talking from here, I just want to take a minute to say Happy New Year and that I hope this is a year filled with health, happiness, challenge and growth for you!

10 new year’s resolution ideas for 2025

1. Check in with yourself more

This is a call to promise yourself that you will check in more with yourself during 2025, and by checking in I mean finding moments of stillness in between the chaos of day-to-day life to ask yourself some important questions…

Are my actions supporting my values? Am I moving in the direction of my dreams?

How do I feel? Like, really? Honestly?

What am I enjoying in my life? What would I like to do more of / less of?

Am I overworking? What is my body telling me? Do I need to rest? Do I have energy to spare?

2. Take up a practice that holds you accountable for your check-in

Having moments of awareness to stop for a moment and check in with yourself can come in many forms, depending on where you’re at on your spiritual journey and what your preferences are.

It’s so easy to have a good intention but for life to then get in the way and before you know it a year has passed / you’ve burnt out again / you’re back here on this post wondering how to show up better for yourself.

By taking up a mindful practice, you hold yourself accountable for that check-in time and routine it into your life through something that makes you feel good. As I mentioned in my ‘What is awareness’ blog post, it doesn’t need to be for 2 hours at a time, it could be just 5 minutes, once a week. Start wherever feel comfortable and just know that doing something is better than doing nothing at all.

Mindful practices are not limited to but may include:

These are all great ways to come out of your mind and into your body for a minute. There are no rules here but try and find an activity or practice that encourages a routine of stillness in your day/week/month so that you can check in frequently and adjust your life as necessary.

3. Take some time off this year

When I say time off, I mean time completely offline. Not just off of work, off of technology, off of social media and off of your emails… all of it.

Dedicate some real quality time for your mind and body to have some time off to relax and rejuvenate.

Book a holiday, plan an adventure, invest in attending a retreat or take a week and fill it with DIY self-care.

It is SO important to allow your body to completely switch off and come out of ‘alert’. Though we may not be engaging in 9 hours of work time a day, by still being on alert to emails, social media, notifications and more, your body will remain in its ‘fight or flight’ response.

Taking time off and taking a media break is especially important during the times we find ourselves in with the pandemic, it’s more important than ever to honour ways to stay positive during COVID-19 and limiting your media intake is up there at the top.

When operating from your sympathetic nervous system (SNS) your body is, in effect, shifting its energy resources towards fighting off a life threat. As you can imagine, our bodies aren’t designed for this continuous release of adrenalin and cortisol. When continuously activated, the SNS can become a long-term drain on the body and cause other bodily functions to become problematic.

Solution: Take regular breaks. Look after yourself and listen to your body’s warning signs.

4. Dream big and write all of your dreams down on paper

They say ‘If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough’ and I might have to agree on this one. Usually, the things we desire the most end up having some fear wrapped around them. It might be fear that the dreams are too big, that you aren’t capable, that you may fail, that it may not work out.

Dreams wouldn’t be dreams if they were within arms reach. Dreams require you to permit yourself to believe in yourself and then dreams require you to step up and show up for yourself every day. Dreams require you to walk alongside your fear but to keep choosing love every day.

Are you choosing love? Are you choosing your dreams? Or are you choosing fear?

5. Random acts of kindness and love

The world needs more love and more kindness. Fact.

Seems like a big problem to solve and huge energy to raise alone. The approach is simple and it can be one of your 10 new year resolution ideas for 2025.

Let’s all individually take responsibility for our vibrations. Let’s make sure we are committing to enough self-love that we can’t help but let it spill out and over onto the people around us.

Try this right now. Message 3 people in your life that you love and let them know that you love them.

Perhaps think of someone that you value, someone who has supported you and contributed to your life in a way that you feel grateful for. Why not plan a way to celebrate them? Show them how much you appreciate them.

It doesn’t have to be big or expensive, it could be just a letter. A hug. Or a surprise delivery of homebaked cookies.

All that matters is that you’re spreading love and kindness to yourself and others when you feel you have the capacity to share it.

6. Try something new!

Perhaps you’re someone who does this all the time? If that’s you – keep getting creative and letting that inner child of yours play!

If you have a list of things you’ve always wanted to try/do, I highly recommend you choose at least 1 this year and commit yourself to it.

It could be candle making, it could be learning to skateboard, it could be solo travel, it could be studying something new or it could be a new sport… it could be anything!

What’s important is that, no matter how many responsibilities, commitments or deadlines you have present in your life, you find time to play.

We mustn’t deny our responsibilities or our playtime.

Take a look at my 30 things to do at home when you’re bored and post for some home-based activity inspiration.

7. Practise gratitude daily

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, gratitude is one of the most important tools you’ll ever add to your toolkit. Start small. Whatever you do just start now.

What are you grateful for in your life? What are you lucky to be surrounded by and to have?

There are so many ways to incorporate gratitude into your life and it’s an almost effortless way to bring abundance into your life.

The idea behind it? Like attracts like. If you’re focused on the negative you will find only negative comes your way. If you set your vibrations high, you will attract high vibrational experiences back to yourself.

How do you set your vibrations high? Practise meditation, practise gratitude, journal and clear your mind, choose love, and increase your presence power.

Doing these practices first thing in the morning is a powerful way to determine the way the rest of your day goes.

8. Cleanse your social media

The majority of you will have found this blog post by clicking through on Pinterest or Instagram, meaning you are among the majority of people who have social media apps and who spend a good deal of time absorbing the information on them (I’m with you in this category).

I’m not here to recommend we delete our social media apps, I’m more so encouraging you to give your social media feeds a cleanse from time to time. It’s important that we consciously choose the messages we are inhaling daily as they are shaping our thoughts and our feelings.

Whether we think the things we read are affecting us or not, on a subconscious level they are.

Make sure you’re following people who align with your values, inspire you and leave you feeling better than when you arrived.

9. Travel somewhere you’ve never been before

I couldn’t not add a travel resolution to my 10 New Year resolution ideas for 2025. Even though we are collectively facing a pandemic, there are ways that you can travel safely during a pandemic and there are also plenty of adventures you can go on closer to your home.

Head over to my Get Inspired page designed to… you guessed it – get you inspired for your next adventure.

Or… search by adventure type/destination if you have an idea of the kind of travel you’d like to embark on next.

Whether it’s solo travelbackpackingweekend getaways or road trips you fancy… get out there and see the beautiful world we live in!

10. Accept help and open your heart to growth

You don’t need to have it all figured out. Your relationship, your career, your weekend, your mental health… it’s all a learning process. Anyone who says they have it all figured out is lying to themselves and you.

You are exactly where you need to be, yes you, and you are so loved. You don’t have to figure it out all by yourself either so there’s no shame in asking for help whether that’s from a friend, a parent, a partner or in the form of a counsellor/therapist. There is absolutely a way through whatever challenges you are facing, trust me.

Open your heart to the possibility of a way through the difficult moments, find a safe space for you to express how you are feeling and go easy on yourself. I believe in you.
