A Festival Packing List – The Ultimate Guide

 In Backpacking, Festivals, Packing, Weekend Getaways

The Festival Packing List you’ve been waiting for… has arrived!

When you drive off, spirits high, music volume higher, windows down and friends tucked in beside you, you want to make sure you have everything you need. You want to be ready to attack the festival face on {or face down in many cases}, and be prepared for pretty much anything.

Festival organisers and the stalls located on site are very good at marking up prices on even the smallest of items that are easy to forget, but you will 100% need. I’m thinking tent pegs, bottle opener, toilet roll, etc.

Let’s face it, after a couple of vodkas you aren’t going to be volunteering to leave the festival to get anything, and will probably just ‘suck up’ the price for the sake of convenience.

Am I right or am I right? Right.

This, however, can lead to it being a very expensive festival, and is the biggest waste of money.

Check out my top tips for saving money to travel here.

So let’s crack the festival packing and reduce the risk of such happening.

I recently attended Symbiosis Gathering in North California which, let me just say, is a festival you NEED to add to your Bucket List.

2017 took this festival to the state above, in Oregon, over the exact dates the Lunar Eclipse occurred and went by the name of ‘Oregon Eclipse 2017’. 2020 sees them going one step further for a ‘Global Eclipse’ event in Patagonia.

Burning Man is also another one I loved, will return to, and should be on your bucket list!

See my festival bucket list here.

These festivals will be nothing short of epic – don’t say I didn’t give you notice.

Anyway, based on what I took to the festival and what I wish I had bought with me, here are…

Hygiene + Sanity

  • Pocket tissues {to carry} + a roll of toilet paper {to keep as back up in tent}
  • Baby wipes {usually more hygienic than the state of the showers}
  • Fem fresh wipes {you know how it is}
  • A microfibre towel {super quick dry, takes up v. minimal space}
  • Some paracetamol and maybe some berocca {for when the hangover kicks in}
  • Hand sanitiser
  • A mini first aid {in case you pick up a wee scratch from all that bumping and grinding}
  • Deodorant
  • Eye mask and ear plugs {if you decide you want some actual rest at some point}

Clothes + Bags

I couldn’t possibly direct you all on clothing for every festival in existence but always remember cozies to snuggle up in at night and plenty of clean underwear!

  • My North Face Duffel is an all weather WINNER
  • Bumbags are essential for me {hands-free dancing}
  • Sunglasses

  • Portable charger {keep the cameras and memory snapping devices alive}
  • GoPro {the ultimate snapping accessory!}

For The Camp…

  • A tent {for obvious reasons, unless your glamping}
  • Extra tent hooks, or just good hooks
  • Shade structure {escape the heat if the festival is likely to be sun drenched}
  • Sleeping bag
  • Pillow {or just a rolled up jumper works for me!}
  • Blow up camp mattress
  • A sleeping mat {for underneath you if you don’t go with the mattress}
  • Camping Lamps {so you can see when it’s dark!}

Luxury additions…

  • Snacks to avoid bad eating
  • Head lamp for using portaloos and for hands-free illumination!
  • Dry shampoo
  • A cool box for the drinks!
  • Camp stove to make your own brekkies / brews
  • Blow up mattress
  • A big flag / lights to hang up on tent {so that you can identify your camp}
  • A Vacuum Insulated Water Bottle {keeps heat 12 hours, cold 24!} e.g. MIZU

Dependent on location…

Make Up + Accessories…

  • My new favourite and absolute future essential is Bare Minerals.

Why? Finally we have skin care that can provide everything from natural coverage to full blown coverage without feeling like you have an extra inch of layer on your face. You feel bare faced and free with it on and BONUS – you don’t have to worry if you fall asleep in it. Doing so is actually more likely to benefit your skin than not, due to the purity of the few ingredients and the minerals within the products. A genuine new found love.

See my travel make up favourites here.

  • Face gems
  • SPF for your face!
  • Hair and Body Glitter {I got AMAZING stuff from gogetglitter.com} (you can also get eco-friendly biodegradable glitter now!)
  • Hippie and fun accessories {I went to Claire’s Accessories}
