The View from The Shard, London

Explore other guides in Special Occasions
No doubt, all you Londoners are already well aware of this London icon. I mean – it’s kinda hard to miss, poking right above and beyond the London Skyline.
But in all the time i’d heard about The Shard and seen it in the sky – I had never actually taken the time to go and experience it for myself.
In fact, aside from going to Vertigo 42 for drinks I hadn’t actually been to any other London Sky Bar. Super strange seeing as it’s usually the first thing on my to-do list when i visit another country!

What is The Shard?
The Shard is not only home to London’s highest viewing platforms, but also contains an array of bars and restaurants, offices and luxury 5-star hotel & spa The Shangri-La.
Warning: If heights aren’t your thing – The Shard is probably not your thing.
How do I find The Shard?
The Shard is located right on London Bridge tube station. Depending on what exit you get off / arrive at, you may need to walk a couple of minutes to access The Shard.
If you get lost, look up, you can’t miss it.
The View from The Shard
With an entrance all to itself, a ‘View from The Shard ticket‘ will gain you access to the top of the building where there are 2 platforms.
Showcasing 360 degree views of London for up to 40 miles, these 2 platforms are the highest in London. The Shard is actually the highest building in Western Europe standing at 308.5m (over double the London Eye at 135m).
Located around the viewing area, there are direction adjusting telescopes with screens that will educate you on whatever it is you aim at.
So for people with limited time to explore the beautiful city of London, it is from here you can search and locate all of London’s lankmarks.
If it is a special occasion (or if you just find yourself thirsty), there is a champagne bar where you can pay extra for a glass of bubbles, nibbles too, and toast over a breathtaking view.
Tickets for the viewing area aren’t cheap, but the view is unquestionable, particularly on a clear day. So for that special occasion or for a first time Londoner it’s a pretty unique experience.
To secure a cheaper price, you can book in advance online: Adult £24.95, Student £19.95.
I’d definitely like to come back and check in to The Shangri-La Hotel (apparently the spa views are to die for), try one of the yoga classes, or experience the silent disco on the top floor (yes you heard correct!).
Even though the restaurants menus are slightly more pricey than your typical London eatery, the experience is combined with the view and I would definitely recommend that for the more experienced Londoner looking for a bit extra.
Let me know if you try them before I do!
Thank you for reading, lots of love…
Mollie xxxx
