Sit back, relax and see the UK with Trainline

Too much of anything can make you sick. According to Cheryl Cole anyway.

No but really, it does. Particularly for me, too many flights and the subsequent air conditioning that my body has to withstand during flight, gets me sick.

The temperature and access to fresh air that you have on ground transport is one of the many reasons why train travel is my preferred choice for those longer-than- drivable journeys.

Travel temperature is just one of many reasons I will book a train ticket at any given opportunity, particularly when exploring the UK.

You may have noticed the tease I shared earlier this week?? The launch of all singing all dancing Lintenair?

Well… Lintenair is in fact Trainline.

All these benefits mentioned already exist in train travel with Trainline. Rearrange the letters it’s an anagram.

What other reasons are there to love Trainline?

  • You can book a seat with a power plug, and even choose which way you face.

For any of us freelancers or laptop-workers, having access to a mains plug to keep our laptops alive is the dream. Having power access means you can use the journey to be productive.

  • No boarding queues

Get yourself to the train station, use the Trainline app to find your platform, download your mobile ticket + hop on! Simple as.

  • No baggage weight restrictions.

I don’t know about you but this is the BIGGEST advantage of them all. No separating your liquids from your hand luggage, no ‘am I going to have to pay for excess baggage’ worries and no worry about the weird and wonderful size of your luggage. A weight off your shoulders.

When Trainline contacted me about working with them to encourage train travel and talk about the obvious benefits, it was a natural fit.

I have used the Trainline app near enough every single day for the last few years, checking train times in and out of London as I commute to meetings and events. I have family in both Birmingham and Cornwall and as a result of my career in travel I also have friends ALL over the country, so I am a frequent traveller in the UK.

Whenever I go to see them, I choose the train so that I can work on the journey and I will always book using Trainline. Honestly – every time.

Things I love about booking with Trainline and using the Trainline app:

– You really do find the best ticket prices

One thing I do despise about UK train travel is the ridiculous cost you can find yourself incurring if you book on the day, there aren’t many places I’ve been to that are worse. Trainline, however, is your best bet.

Trainline brings together the information and fares of over 48 train companies across 24 countries in Europe so you can even plan trips beyond the UK and ensure you are spending smartly and getting the best possible price for your trip. And booking in advance, you can save up to 43% vs. the cheapest non-Advance fares.

– You can view the platforms

It’s the little things right? If you’re at a huge train station waiting for your train to arrive, you can view the platform that your train is due to arrive in on the app. I’m all about efficiency!

– The app is just so easy to use and browse on

Whether you’ve booked an open return, want to get a new seat or are just browsing away, using the Trainline app is ALWAYS my go to and it is the easiest and best presented app of them all. Yup mum, even you wouldn’t get lost on it.

– Book, pay and access mobile tickets on your phone

The booking system is equally as easy to use and you can even opt to use mobile tickets which are accessible through the Trainline app on your phone. Say goodbye to having to allow time to pick up your tickets at the station, and the scramble for the orange ticket when you reach your destination.

– Live journey updates

Whether before or during the journey, you can check exactly what’s going on with your journey and whether everything is running on time.

A few days ago I booked to visit Birmingham with Trainline to visit my grandparents to show you exactly how easy and enjoyable your experience can be. When booking my train I noticed that I could book a return journey {fixed trains times} for £6 outbound and £7 inbound!!! What a bargain.

I decided to push the boat out and go first class because I’ve never actually done travelled this way and I wanted to ensure I had a extra space to work on the journey.

I paid £53 for a return which included breakfast and tea/coffee/refreshments on the outbound journey and lunch with snacks and refreshments on the return journey. First class also gave me access to the First Class Lounge which gave me a clean, tidy and peaceful space to work until my train arrived. The lounge was also filled with refreshments – a welcomed bonus.

My first experience of First Class train travel was really eye opening and so enjoyable that it’s now something i’d definitely consider paying for again.

Here’s my Trainline experience London – Birmingham in photos…

  • I use the trainline so often when I’m in the UK just because of how easy it is – and I completely agree with you on the flying bit there, it dehydrates my skin so much 🙁

Yeah me too. I get flu a lot from the contrasting temperatures on a plane!
